I plan on joining the ACLU and want some opinions
This is copied from my Myspace blog so most of you won't know about the statements about my other blogs.
If you have paid attention to my last three blogs, particularly the pastor’s video, you will see a common theme that has captured my interests as of late. I find the atrocities that were committed to the Pastor to be unforgiving in a "free" society. Currently we have a "Constitutional free zone" bordering our country. This includes about half of Virginia. Yes, if you are reading this chances are you are living in a constitutional free zone. What does this mean to you? Well technically, with this zone you have no rights. That’s right, you have no rights. Now chances are for small, local matters this will not affect you should you have a run in with the local law or authority figure. As you may have seen from the Pastor's video, if the Federal Government wants to enforce the free zone then there is nothing you can do other than get beat down for wanting to exercise your rights.
I don’t agree with the Pastor as a person. His views and beliefs in his other videos do not correspond to mine, but as a human being living in a free country, I believe he should be just as free to express his rights even if I do not agree with him. As the quote by Evelyn Beatrice Hall says “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”. Civil disobedience by just exercising your constitutional rights does not deserve the torture this person endured.
First, the “Constitutional Free Zone” will be 100 miles inland as it is now. What will happen next? Will they then decided 200 miles inland? 300! At what point does it have to get before the American people will again decide to vocalize “Noli Me Calcare” Don’t Tread on Me? With the Patriot Act, that many of us did not have an option to contest, in effect; we have given up our rights or dare I say they were taken away. Benjamin Franklin stated, “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. The Pastor in the video stated, “It took tens of thousands of men to die to give us our rights and freedom in this country and only three thousand in New York to take them away.”
What will it take to get people involved in their freedom? In D.C. the police were going to start going door to door in the black neighborhoods and conduct a warrantless search for guns in the homes of these people. The ACLU educated the people on their rights and the local government decided to nix that idea. I plan to get involved with the ACLU. If you know me personally, you know I am not a joiner. This subject has hit a nerve with me and I plan on standing up for my rights and the rights of others. If you value your freedom, I encourage you to do that same. You can check out this link to the Virginia ACLU { ACLU } and if you haven’t seen it the Pastor’s video { Pastor's Video }
I value any opinions on the matter and your opinion of joining the ACLU so please reply. Until then “Papers Please".
